Why I’m Backing USC +4.5 Against LSU
When it comes to this weekend’s big matchup between USC and LSU, I’m putting my money on the Trojans +4.5. Here’s why:
1. Defensive Upgrades
USC made a smart move by bringing in D’Anton Lynn from UCLA as their new defensive coordinator. Lynn is completely revamping a defense that needed serious help, and the addition of North Dakota State’s Matt Entz as the linebackers coach adds even more experience to this unit. Meanwhile, I’m not convinced LSU’s defense will see much improvement under Blake Baker, who struggled at Missouri with defending explosive plays.
NCAAF Picks went 4-1 on my VIP Picks this weekend!
2. Explosive Offense
While USC has to replace Caleb Williams, they’ve got Miller Moss ready to step in. Moss lit up the Holiday Bowl last season with 372 yards and six touchdowns. He’ll be working behind one of the top offensive lines in the Big Ten and throwing to one of the most dynamic playmakers in the nation, wide receiver Zachariah Branch. LSU’s defense, which struggled with allowing points last season, might not be able to keep up.
3. Question Marks for LSU
LSU’s offense is led by Garrett Nussmeier, a redshirt junior who has some experience but hasn’t been tested in a game like this. While the Tigers have some weapons, their defense remains a concern, especially against a USC offense that ranked third in scoring last year. With LSU still figuring things out, this game could be closer than the oddsmakers think.
The Pick
USC’s revamped defense and proven offensive firepower give them a strong chance to not only cover the spread but potentially pull off the upset. I’m taking the Trojans +4.5 in what should be one of the most exciting games of the weekend.
